Scarlet Kane
Scarlet joined us in June 2025, bringing with her a passion for empowering young people and a strong foundation in youth-centred practice. As a Youth Work Practitioner, Scarlet works across Northumberland to build positive, trusting relationships with young people while championing the YMCA’s core values of inclusion, respect, and belonging. Her work involves supporting emotional and physical well-being, fostering safe spaces, and delivering impactful, creative youth sessions.
Before joining YMCA Northumberland, Scarlet worked with Pride Action North, an LGBTQ+ organisation where she managed social media, coordinated events, and first connected with young people in East Bedlington. That experience sparked her commitment to youth work, a journey that continues today through her sessions at the East Bedlington Community Centre and her involvement in the Sound Futures project, which helps young people explore career pathways in the music industry.
Scarlet brings a unique blend of skills to the team, including experience in detached and outreach youth work, event management, creative communication, and multi-agency collaboration. Her strengths lie in her ability to build genuine connections, think on her feet, and create inclusive, engaging environments for all young people.
Outside of work, Scarlet is rarely standing still. A self-declared adrenaline junkie, she enjoys camping, climbing trees, riding quad bikes, and once played ice hockey for England’s U16 team. She also has a passion for photography and live music, often spending weekends capturing moments at local gigs or hunting for vintage Newcastle United shirts at car boot sales.
Inspired by grassroots community workers and creatives who challenge the status quo, Scarlet describes herself as adventurous, creative, and driven. Her collaborative approach to problem-solving, along with her dedication to diversity and empowerment, makes her an energetic and inspiring member of the YMCA Northumberland team.
