Nissi-Kay Black
Nissi-kay Black has been part of the YMCA Northumberland team for over three years, leading our Sing With Us session with passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to supporting young people. Her role is all about creating a safe, empowering space where young people can be themselves, grow in confidence, and explore their own creativity through singing.
Before joining us, Nissi-kay worked at CVYP, a youth service in her local area. With a strong background in youth work, she brings a wealth of experience and a calm, confident approach to every session. Her key areas of expertise include music, sexual health, and mental health. She approaches these subjects with honesty, empathy, and a genuine desire to educate and inspire.
One of Nissi-kay’s proudest achievements has been her work on Airplay and various music projects, which have given young people a platform to express themselves and connect with others through creativity. She’s also a talented singer herself and enjoys singing outside of work, which is something that often finds its way into the energy and enthusiasm she brings to her sessions.
Nissi-kay describes herself as funny, unique, and kind-hearted, and anyone who’s worked with her would agree. She’s always ready to offer advice, lend a listening ear, and bring a bit of laughter to the day. Her direct, head-on approach to solving problems means she’s someone the team can count on when challenges arise.
Something people might not know about Nissi-kay is that her name is Cypriot and is often a surprise that sparks curiosity and conversation. She’s inspired by Lady Gaga, admiring her talent, strength, and the way she uses her platform to empower others.
What Nissi-kay loves most about working at YMCA Northumberland is the people. Both the amazing staff she’s worked with over the years and the chance to give back to the community. Through her involvement in Youth Ambassador work, she’s gained a deeper understanding of the issues facing young people in our area and has grown professionally in the process. Her dedication to young people and the wider community makes her a truly valued part of the YMCA Northumberland family.
