Alwyn Taylor

Alwyn has been a valued member of the YMCA Northumberland team since 2009. As one of our Administrators, she’s the first point of contact for many visitors, providing a friendly and professional presence at Reception. Her role is wide-ranging, covering everything from answering calls and supporting room users, to handling money, managing bookings, and maintaining important health and safety documentation such as COSHH records, risk assessments, and fire duties.

Alwyn brings a wealth of experience to her role, having spent many years in retail management with Asda across several locations, including Ashington, Blyth, Gosforth, and Washington. Her background in leadership and customer service, along with her adaptable nature, makes her a key support within our day-to-day operations. After taking a career break to care for her mother, Alwyn made a career change and found her new path at YMCA Northumberland; something she describes as one of her best decisions.

Known for her people skills, attention to detail, and a can-do approach, Alwyn plays an important role in keeping the organisation running smoothly behind the scenes. She’s especially proud of helping to reduce contract costs during a challenging period, demonstrating her practical mindset and commitment to supporting the organisation.

Alwyn describes herself as quirky, adaptable, and unpredictable. A true reflection of her dynamic personality and ability to take on whatever the day brings. Outside of work, she enjoys listening to music, travelling, and going to the gym. A fun fact that often surprises people is that she was once a self-declared “biker chick” and still loves fast motorbikes and MotoGP!

She’s inspired by the resilience and compassion of Nelson Mandela, and it’s that same spirit she brings to her role at YMCA Northumberland, approaching each challenge with positivity and the belief that there’s always a solution. For Alwyn, the best part of being at YMCA Northumberland is the variety in her role and the strong sense of family within the team.
