

Our Team
We have 10 full and part-time paid staff, including our experienced youth workers and a small team of operational staff responsible for running the charity and our facilities. All of our Youth Workers are committed to professional development and either have or are working towards Level 3 Youth Work qualifications.
Our Chief Executive has over 20 years of experience delivering high-quality youth provision within the YMCA structure and has led YMCA Northumberland since 2009. The senior leadership team are responsible for ensuring that the policies and strategies of the Board are implemented and progressed and our Chief Executive attends all Board meetings.

Nissi-Kay Black
Youth Work Practitioner
Nissi is part of our Youth Work Practitioner team. Previously she worked at Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project, working her way up to become a Youth Support Worker. She is currently working towards her level 3 youth work qualification. In her role she enjoys working alongside lots of different-aged young people, keeping them off the street and helping guide them in the right direction.

Dan Brown
Volunteer
Dan volunteers on a weekly basis at YMCA Northumberland. He primarily assists the Youth Workers in the sessions, providing an extra pair of ears and eyes. He enjoys having a chat and listening to the young people, finding that he can relate to many of their experiences from when he was their age.

Elinor Bryant
Marketing Assistant
Elinor works as Marketing Assistant for YMCA Northumberland. In her role she manages our social media channels, markets our sessions and represents YMCA Northumberland at community events. She has previously graduated from a BA Fine Art before completing a Level 3 Diploma in Principles of Digital Marketing and Research. She enjoys knowing that she is helping to provide a safe place for young people to discuss what’s on their minds.

Mckenzie Bryson
Youth Work Practitioner
Mckenzie became a Youth Work Practitioner in October 2023 after volunteering with YMCA Northumberland for two years. He has achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work and is committed to furthering his education. He enjoys connecting with young people and providing them with a safe and fun space.

Rob Cox
Chief Executive
Rob is our Chief Executive keeping us on track to achieve our aims and assuring that we are working to the best interests of our beneficiaries. He has worked in various roles within the YMCA organisation for 23 years and he has been the chief executive of YMCA Northumberland since 2009. Seeing the difference YMCA Northumberland makes in young people’s lives is the most enjoyable part of his role.

Eric Fletcher
Youth and Community Project Manager
Eric became our Youth and Community Project Manager in November 2023. He has previously worked in policing for 34 years and has also been a volunteer sail trainer, a Practitioner Researcher at Newcastle University and most recently the Training, Development and Research Lead with the Violence Reduction Unit. He is most looking forward to working with the Ashington Children’s Community to convene schools and the wider community and enable young people to create their own social action projects.

Steve Kerr
Caretaker
Steve is our Caretaker at YMCA and he has been working with us for 13 years. His role involves managing the building day to day, keeping the space clean and tidy and fixing any issues. He is a positive and supportive presence in the YMCA who is always up for a chat.

Clare McKay
Fundraising & Projects Manager
Clare is our Fundraising & Projects Manager at YMCA Northumberland. She’s responsible for finding funds to enable the organisation to continue and expand its amazing work. Prior to working at the YMCA, she worked in a variety of voluntary sector organisations in project co-ordination roles often with fundraising elements. She enjoys knowing that the work she does makes a huge difference to the services we provide and, in turn, to the quality of young people’s lives.

Michelle Railston
Youth Work Practitioner
Michelle became a Youth Work Practitioner at YMCA Northumberland is April 2023.

Kirby Routledge
Administrator
Kirby is our Administrator; she manages the YMCA Northumberland diary and is the first point of contact if you want to hire out a space. She is a qualified business administrator who has previously worked in the construction industry. She loves working with a close team of likeminded and helpful people.
